Private Lessons & Classes
What if. . .there were a place where learning an instrument was rewarding?
What if. . .there were a place where children AND adults could learn together?
What if. . .there were a place where students began only after they were ready?
What if. . .there were a place where the instructors were also performers?
Allegro School of Music is just that place!
At Allegro School of Music, we believe in cultivating a love of music for a lifetime of enjoyment. We know that music has a magical way of drawing families together and providing common experiences upon which fond memories are made. We approach music instruction from this aspect. We want our students to be successful and to truly enjoy the instruments that they have chosen to learn, as all of our instructors have experienced in their own lives.

So what makes Allegro School of Music different than other music studios?
Variety of Instruments
At Allegro, you have the choice of learning a wide variety of instruments, including Suzuki violin, piano, guitar, voice, trumpet, trombone, French horn, flute, saxophone, harp, and many others. Having a hard time deciding which instrument to select?
Private Lessons
We begin private lessons with children only when it is age-appropriate, in order to ensure that students have the best chance for success. The minimum ages we have established are based on typical developmental stages for each age, based on the physical, cognitive, emotional, and educational skills necessary for a good lesson experience with each particular instrument. Children younger than the ages listed below will do very well to begin in a Kindermusik class, which will help them learn a variety of musical skills necessary for success in later private lessons.
Violin: ages 7 to adult
Piano: ages 7 to adult
Guitar: ages 8 to adult
Voice: ages 12 to adult (private voice training is quite rigorous to a voice that has not changed yet; children younger than 12 do best in a choral group)
Trumpet: depends on the age of beginning band
Trombone: depends on the age of beginning band
French horn: depends on the age of beginning band
Flute: depends on the age of beginning band
Saxophone: depends on the age of beginning band
Harp: must have at least two years of piano first
Focus On Teaching
Our focus is on music instruction. We do not sell or rent band and orchestra instruments. This gives us the opportunity to specialize in one thing only -- providing the highest-quality musical instruction for your family.
Highly-Qualified Instructors
Our instructors are all very qualified, with university training and considerable performance experience. One of our instructors has even recorded a solo album; another spent time on the road as a back-up singer for Tom Jones! Every one of our teachers strives to relate their teaching to each individual student's learning style.
Dedicated Setting
Our studio lessons are held in a dedicated music education setting, away from the distractions of TV, pets, ringing telephones, children and toys. Students and teachers have a better chance of devoting the entire time to learning while in this setting, since they are able to focus solely on their music lesson during that time. In-home lessons are also available, under certain circumstances.
All Ages and All Levels
We offer valuable musical experiences and instruction for adults and children of any age. We provide classes for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, elementary-age children, and entire families, as well as private lessons for children, youth and adults. Instead of attending an early-childhood program at one studio and later having to seek out a new one at which to continue with private lessons, your family can stay with our trusted teachers for a lifetime!
Variety of Options
Children are not one-size-fits-all when it comes to music instruction. We offer both private and group lessons, a variety of instructors, and a variety of styles of instruction in order to find the right fit for each student. We take care to teach what you want to learn so that music is rewarding for students of all ages and levels.
Class Instruction
We recognize that many children (and adults) learn better when surrounded by the energy and encouragement of their peer group. Further, starting private lessons before a child has reached an appropriate age can result in frustration, lack of motivation, slower progress, and a desire to quit.
Our group instruction for 5 to 7 year olds enables students to learn the basics of music in order to build a solid foundation for future success in private lessons and band or choir. Students learn vocal skills, as well as how to play a pre-keyboard instrument (glockenspiel), a string instrument (dulcimer) and a wind instrument (recorder). This exposure to a variety of instruments will help students later choose the most appropriate instrument in which to pursue private lessons. Classes are limited to 6 students.
Our class piano (for ages 7 to 9) and class guitar (for ages 8 and up) lessons grant students the opportunity to build their confidence, attention span and skills in physical playing, rhythm, composition and ear training. This is done through the instruction of the teacher, as well as the weekly observation of their peers and regular ensemble playing in class. Classes are limited to an optimal size to allow for individual attention from the teacher.
Group Lessons and Recitals
Low-pressure performance opportunities are offered at least three times per year. These provide students with performance experience and help to build their confidence. Participation in music festivals, competitions and workshops is also available.
